Using Different Decks

Working with different tarot decks can help generate new ideas for character and plot and even setting. Take a look at the different interpretations of The Lovers card below.
Ukiyoe Tarot	In the Ukiyoe deck, the young man has a courtesan on his right arm and an older woman on his left. Perhaps he is trying to convince the older woman, his mother, to accept the courtesan in place of the young woman to whom he has been engaged since childhood. Perhaps the young woman flying over head is the young man's first wife who died soon after their wedding. Or maybe the young man was in love with the woman flying overhead but she betrayed him and is desperately trying to get his love back. Setting: The Edo Period of Japan? Modern Tokyo or NYC?
The Mythic Tarot	In The Mythic Tarot, The Lovers card shows the Judgement of Paris. Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena have asked Paris to determine which of them is the fairest and therefore most deserving of the golden apple in his hand. Each offers a bribe. Hera offers him the world, and Athena offers him wisdom—both very enticing—but Paris chooses Aphrodite as the fairest and she grants him the love of the most beautiful woman in the world. A great theme for a love story—choosing beauty over power or wisdom. And it all ends in war! Setting: Ancient Greece? Modern Paris?
The Housewives Tarot	In The Housewives Tarot, the lovers have the spirit of The Fool who is unaware he is about to step off a cliff. Perhaps the young man is taking Daddy's car for a joy ride. Setting: Los Angeles,1950s
Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot Deck	The Thoth deck shows the union of an inter-racial couple whose gender is ambiguous. Lots of potential there. Setting: Looks kind of sci-fi. Maybe this could be set in a utopian future.
Tarot of Baseball	The Tarot of Baseball offers an interpretation of The Lovers card that is often overlooked. The Lovers can symbolze passion of all kinds, including the passion one might have for a baseball team! Is it love at first site for these two? Or maybe he has a ring in his pocket and is planning to propose on the big screen! Setting: AT & T Park, San Francisco (Or whatever they're calling the park these days.)
