Developing Character

Below are some writing prompts to help you use the tarot to develop a character. Describe, in writing, each card you choose. What is happening in the card? How might this metaphorically relate to your character? After you have finished writing, you may want to click on the title of the card, which will take you to an interpretation. This may give you more ideas to consider.

Describe your character's strengths. Does she have a gentle strength like the woman in this card? Or does she have the brutal (or cowardly) strength of the lion? Choose a card below that shows the source of your character's strength.

What keeps your character up at night? Find a card below that shows what may be causing him stress or regret. What is he afraid of?

What is driving your character? Choose a card below that shows a healthy motivator. Choose a card below that shows a not-so-healthy motivator.

You might also choose cards to show your character's hopes, a risk he has taken, a secret she has been keeping, a special memory, and a decision he must make.
