My philosophy:
Traditionally the tarot has been used as a fortune telling system. In this class, I will not teach you how to use the cards to make predictions but rather I will show you how to use the Tarot to shed light on your choices and to empower you to determine the direction your life will take. You might visit my Readings page to learn about my personal reading style.
Who this class is for:
Most of those who have expressed interest in this class have some familiarity with the tarot, some from having attended my workshops in the past.
I will cover the basics for those who have little or no experience with the tarot. Those with some familiarity will gain new insights and confidence in their ability as we do group exercises and have a chance to hear the fresh perspectives of each participant. (I learn something new each time I teach a class or give a reading!)
Goals for the class:
Learning to read the cards on one's own can be overwhelming. There are 78 cards in the deck, which is a lot to get familiar with! While a few class sessions
may not be enough to get you a reading like a pro, it is perfect for setting you on a path and giving you all the tools you will need. Certainly the more time you choose to play with the cards between class sessions, the further along you will be.
At the end of the class sessions you will:
- have the basic tools to be able to interpret any card from the deck without needing to look it up in a book.
- understand the structure of the deck.
- understand the nature of the four suits: Swords, Wands, Cups, and Pentacles.
- have a basic understanding of the numerological principles of tarot.
- be introduced to the "personalities" of the court cards.
- be able to ask an effective question for the Tarot.
- begin practicing one, two and three-card readings.
- have resources to further develop your skills and knowledge of the tarot.
What to bring:
| * |
a Rider-Waite Tarot deck, if you have one, and if you don't, I will have plenty to lend out during class time. I find that this classic, popular deck is the best choice for those who are learning. It is easy to interpret but also has depth. Many other decks are influenced by it, so familiarity with it will also give you a foundation for working with others.
I will also have this deck available for purchase for $15.00. If you would like to have your own deck, you might choose to purchase one at the first class. Most bookstores carry this deck as well. |
What I will provide:
| * |
Hot water and tea.
|
*
|
Rider-Waite decks, which you are welcome to borrow during class sessions.
|
| * |
a binder that includes an interpretation of each of the 78 cards, and other helpful information to get you started. |
